Philippine Independence, The Most Significant Event in our Country's History

Image
The Philippine Revolution is one of the most important events in the country’s history, awakening a proud sense of nationalism for generations of Filipinos to come. In a period of heavy struggle and conflict, Filipinos of different backgrounds united with a common goal: to resist colonialism.      The revolution against Spain was sparked in 1896 after Spanish authorities discovered the “Katipunan,” a Filipino revolutionary society plotting against their colonizers. It ended in 1902, where Spain lost and ceded sovereignty of the Philippines to the United States.    Andres Bonifacio was the Supreme of the Katipunan (association), or as it was also known: Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (Highest and Most Venerated Association of the Sons and Daughters of the Land). The organization drew inspiration from Dr. Jose Rizal, whose literary works,  particularly   Noli Me Tangere   and   El Filibu...

LENTEN SEASON

Image
Have you ever wondered what people are talking about when they say they’re giving something up for Lent? Do you want to understand what Lent is and how it relates to Easter?      Lent is the 40 days (not including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to the Saturday before Easter. Lent is often described as a time of preparation and an opportunity to go deeper with God. This means that it’s a time for personal reflection that prepares people’s hearts and minds for Good Friday and Easter.      Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. You may have noticed people with a smudged, black cross on their foreheads. Those are ashes from the Ash Wednesday service. The ashes symbolize our grief for the things we’ve done wrong and the resulting division of imperfect people from a perfect God.      Maundy Thursday is the day before Good Friday. It commemorates the night before Jesus died, when He shared the Passover meal with His clo...

Image
"A tapestry of culture and arts woven by a miracle that saved the residents in 1882"    Go back to where the festival came from and understand the miracle that saved the residents in December 1882. Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival of the Arts celebrated from the last week of April to the first week of May was originally the Feast of the Natives that began on May 3, 1883, according to the writings of Damaso King, well-known Vigan historian .  The festival began when an epidemic killed 934 residents in a month in 1882. The epidemic started Nov. 12 and ended Dec. 15. This happened 30 years after a chapel was built in 1852 in the cemetery of Vigan. The huge number of deaths in such short time alarmed the  naturales  or native inhabitants and  mestizos  or residents with Spanish blood that they asked Dr. Evaristo Abaya, the parish priest to request for the visit to Vigan of the  Santo Cristo Milagroso  of Sinait town. It is a celebration that lasts from the last week of January and ends on the first week of February.      It is the Ilocanos’ way of giving thanks to the Almighty not only for the bountiful blessings but also for the rich heritage of the province, including the close family ties among the Ilocanos.      It is a tradition that during the opening of the festival, there is usually a mass held at the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral. It is followed by a procession of the Patron Saints of the 40 parishes and images of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary around Vigan City. It is a little bit hard for me also in identifying the HTML Text Formatting tags, describing the tags used in HTML alignment attribute and when creating an HTML file applying the text formatting and alignment attributes.           I overcome this challenges by making a plan, I ask fo...

Vigan City Fiesta

Image
Every year on January 25th, the Vigan City Fiesta is celebrated. It is commemorated on the feast day of St. Paul the Apostle's conversion. The patron saint of Vigan City is St. Paul. Before his conversion, St. Paul was known as Saul, a fervent persecutor of Christians. His name was changed to Paul when he was struck by a personal experience with Jesus Christ on his route to Damascus, and he braved a lot of hardships and danger to bring the message of God to far-flung locations.      The Metropolitan Cathedral, which is the heart of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, is Vigan's primary cathedral and is dedicated to St. Paul. The St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur, a notable Catholic educational institution in Vigan that is next to the cathedral, is also dedicated to the patron. The Vigan City Fiesta is normally held over a period of many days. It involves the celebration of Vigan's cityhood anniversary, which takes place on the 27th of January each ye...

New Year, New Me!

Image
On the first of January, the expression "new year, new me" is frequently used in the United Kingdom. On this day, it is highly popular to make a new year's resolution. This may be as simple as giving up something you enjoy, such as sweets or chocolate, in order to be healthy. People also prefer to try something new, such as taking up a new activity or going to the gym, in order to improve their fitness. In fact, there are a lot of options for you! As a new year's resolution, the majority of individuals I know opt to join a gym and eat better foods. Many people gain weight during the holidays because they eat a lot of fatty foods.      In my opinion, New Year's resolutions are a terrific way to motivate individuals to do something positive for themselves. It's easier to keep to your own resolution when there are a lot of other individuals who do the same thing. A group of pals might make a fitness commitment together. Sometime during the wee...
