Activities on children's rights are featured in DepEd's celebration of National Children's Month
The Department of Education (DepEd) commemorates the 29th National Children's Month (NCM) in November with a variety of programs promoting children's rights and welfare in the new normal, based on their domestic and international rights. This year's commemoration will focus on a variety of topics related to children's rights to survival, growth, protection, and participation in the new normal setting, with the national theme "New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan." Each week throughout November, four aspects of children's rights will be discussed. The first week focused on survival rights, while the second week focused on development rights. In the meantime, the third and fourth weeks, respectively, will focus on the rights to participation and protection. In conjunction with the newly established Child Rights in Education Desk under the Office of the Undersecretary for Legal Affairs, the DepEd Central Office will host the Third National Summit on the Rights of the Child in Education on November 25 and 26 with the theme "Batang May K: Karapatan ng Bata sa Education, Katuwang ang Pagsulong!". "In the department, the emphasis is on education based on human rights. DepEd will have a Pre-Summit Conference with the children who will be attending the summit to assist them prepare and gather ideas on how the summit should be run. DepEd also supports NCM events such as weekly documentary screenings on Fridays, children's play activities, the 4th Conference on Digital Parenting: Webinar on Digital Well-Being on November 23 (Tuesday), and the NCM logo-making contest conclusion ceremony and awards on November 26. (Friday). The 29th National Children's Month is held in accordance with Republic Act No. 10661, "An Act Declaring the Month of November as the National Children's Month Every Year," which requires the Department of Education to facilitate and encourage the celebration of the National Children's Month in all public and private schools across the country. DepEd Memorandum No. 075, s. 107, was issued in full support of the child's rights. In 2021, the Department of Education will commemorate the NCM in conjunction with the whole government and the country.
